About Us

VAHM is recognizing the significance of history and ensuring its preservation for the future!

The Velva Area History Museum (VAHM) is dedicated to the preservation of Velva's history and the southern region of McHenry County. As a non-profit entity, we have been actively engaged in historical restoration efforts since 2022. With a wealth of history spanning from the open-cut mine to the coal power plant, our board diligently sifts through a rich tapestry of historical narratives.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Velva Area History Museum is to preserve our local history

while promoting the importance of small town area communities.
